Description:
A dense-peated main-lander, and one you're likely not familiar with. But should you be? Let's discover it out.
Old Ballantruan is produced by Tomintoul distillery in Speyside. This Old Ballantruan 10 year has rectified all of those wrongs. Aside from the maturing statement, it's non-chill strained and bottled at 50%.Â
So this one has a possibility to be an ample perfection over its younger brother. It's also reasonably well-priced. The aroma is calm but firm with notes of quenched fire and machine oil along with shady bread as well as iodine.
The drink's taste is bitter, dry, and somewhat hot, with bread crust, white pepper, and mild peatiness signs. The finish is average length and has an attractive profile of mineralogy with dashes of wet stones, hay, and burnt flowers. And even reached a great level of success by receiving awards like the Gold in Liquid Gold Award - 2017 at Jim Murray's Whisky Bible.Â
The ten-year peated mainlander has changed many opinions of peated Tomintoul. If you are yet to try any of their un-peated whisky, this one looks like it shows what they can do without freezing filtration, with good strength and a bit of maturing.Â
