The Aberfeldy Exceptional Cask series features small batch single malts that Master Distiller Stephanie Macleod has specially selected. The collection is a great way to find out more about the distilleries and find some unusual and uncommon bottlings.
This particular release is a very exciting expression. In Aberfeldy, Scotland's Highlands, the "spiritual home of Dewar's," you can visit the visitor center and the World of Dewar's to learn everything there is to know about the business.
This bottle was distilled in 1988 and was initially laid down to mature. It took another 28 years before it was bottled and made accessible for consumption. Only 222 bottles were produced by the cask, making it a very rare one.
The nose is welcomed by a fresh scent of malted grains and citrus fruits. It is energetic and colorful. Additionally, softer, sweeter notes of pie crusts, chocolate, and cinnamon are added to the nose.
With notes of treacle, toffee, and custard, the flavor is as sweet and smooth as honey. The sweeter flavors are amply complemented by the body's thickness and silkiness. A great spice that warms the flavor is also available. The final ingredient, oak, successfully combines the flavors.
The lovely and tasty ending has more honey and oak.
With a 28-year age difference, this malt from the Exceptional Cask series is one of the oldest and truly stands out for its quality. The quality of malt produced here is evident by the outstanding body smoothness. It is simple to see why Dewar's selected it as their signature distillery.
