Description:

Since I had only previously tried their Ruby Port cask-matured whisky, I was excited to try their core line of whiskey. The chill-filtered Edradour 10YO single malt, which has 40% alcohol by volume, was aged in ex-Sherry oak barrels. Here is a review of the 43% ABV Edradour 10YO from the Malt Research Institute blog that was sold in the US.

The beverage's flavor is nice, with mouth-coating sweet fruit candies, raisins, caramelized apples, and a little bit more of the flavor of oxidized wine on the point of going bad.

Taking a reasonable amount of time to complete the beverage. Dried cherries, a hint of smoke, and a nice, lingering woodiness that never gets bitter.

I was eager to test their core range whisky since I had only before tried their Ruby Port cask-matured whisky. The chill-filtered Edradour 10YO single malt was aged in ex-Sherry oak casks and contained 40% alcohol by volume. Here is a review of the Edradour 10YO with 43% ABV sold in the US market from the Malt Research Institute blog.

Taste of the beverage Nice, mouth-coating sweet fruity candies, raisins, caramelized apples, and a bit more of the flavor of oxidized wine on the verge of going rotten.

Finishing the beverage reasonably long. Dried cherries, a touch of smoke, and a pleasant, lingering woodiness that never becomes bitter.

The nose appears dampened by water. It awakens some fresher fruit on the palate at the expense of a more intense alcohol burn. In particular, given the low bottling proof, I would stay away from the water.

The sample's apparent age and quality both caught me off guard. It is powerful and flavorful while having only 40% alcohol by volume, and it is in no way inferior to the Caledonia sample I tried last year. It's impressive that a 10-year-old has this much oxidized, deep sherry taste; it speaks highly of the casks they're using. I might have to start looking for a whole bottle of this as, in a blind tasting, I would have guessed that it was 17 years old.
