The Stein family founded the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin, Ireland, in 1780. When they first began making their own brand of distilled whiskey, they were turning out roughly 30,000 gallons a year by 1786. At this point, Scottish businessman John Jameson took over as the company's manager. The distillery would generate one million barrels of distilled spirits annually and rank second in Ireland within fifteen years of his hiring.

Though it's in the background, the traditional Jameson Irish sweetness is present upfront. It tastes like a piece of brown bread with some honey, butter, and vanilla drizzled over it. The hops IPA component adds orange citrus, creating a rich and intriguing profile.

The flavor profile essentially communicates everything, albeit in various ratios. The toasted brown bread comes through first, providing a silky and delectable foundation for everything else to follow, but it is by no means the prominent flavor. After that, the IPA finishing treatment brings the orange citrus and a hint of bitterness, which completely dominates the depth of flavor.

The bitterness also doesn't remain for very long; the orange citrus does. Ultimately, it consists of this mouthwatering combination of barley's nutty flavor, some butter and honey, and a tiny amount of orange citrus.

Usually, the more delicate notes disappear from the flavor profile when a small amount of ice is added. And when it comes to a whiskey that has been aged in a barrel, that typically means that the tastes from the aging process are the ones that go. But in this case, the only actual change is that the IPA's bitterness is eliminated, leaving only the orange flavor.
